What I Learned When I Met Kobe Bryant And Applying it to Premed

Uncategorized Feb 05, 2020

Kobe Bryant’s untimely death was tragic and an immense loss for the world. Although I didn’t know him well personally, I saw him plenty of times at UC Irvine’s Anteater Recreation Center (where I went to undergrad) and even met him once.

To truly understand him and his unbelievable work ethic is something that everyone should take a moment to do, especially those of you who are trying to learn how to get into medical school.

If you have been struggling in premed or college, if you haven’t been achieving at your best, or if you want to simply honor Kobe Bryant with a renewed focus, work ethic, and #MambaMentality, you should watch this video now.

  •  Med school is for the few, not many. If you want to get into med school you have high aspirations, but you need to also have big-time preparation to meet those aspirations.
  • A lot of people think Kobe was great only because he was athletic – not true!
  • I frequently saw him working out at his hardest at 4 or 5 am – acting like Game 7 of the playoffs was the next day, but this was during the offseason!
  • He put in detailed, grueling preparation to reach that level of greatness.
  • The bigger, overlooked part of #MambaMentality is to work and prepare so hard that you can strike, kill, absolutely dominate anything in the way of med school.
  • He was able to live and embody Mamba Mentality by putting in the preparation and work every day before the game – by putting in so much more than his competition.
  • You need to learn how to study with focused intention and ferocity. You need to make your study sessions (your practice) just as intense and focused as exam day.
  • Some of you haven’t hit misery yet. There’s just one opportunity to make college a success so you get into medical school, and you have to prepare at the highest level to avoid the misery of failure, low grades, low MCAT scores, etc.
  • Growth is important, growth matters and you will not be the best unless you grow! It’s a requirement for life and to grow you must be willing to receive feedback. You need to actively seek feedback.

I cover so much more in the video and show you how we can all honor Kobe Bryant’s loss in the best way and make our lives and others’ lives better, so make sure to check it out now.

I’m on a mission to empower 1 million students by 2025, and I want to help you avoid the painful mistakes that I made which can hold you back from your goal of getting into med school.
